Stella Maris Environmental Research is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization focused on bringing attention and solutions to current environmental issues to children through education, conservation and research.  One of the programs that has been supported by Variety of Florida for the third consecutive year is Wesley’s Island Eco Camp.

Wesley’s Island Eco Camp is an immersive learning program in which youth are engaged in environmental studies, restoration and stewardship of the Indian River Lagoon.
This summer of 2020, some of our Variety kids attended a week-long camp experience at Wesley’s Island where they participated in multiple activities and programs.  The kids had a full time daily itinerary filled with various excursions.  They attended educational micro-plastic and horseshoe/crab/bird labs, they dissected squids and engaged in aqua culture labs by the shoreline.  They went on kayaking adventures, explored fishing, participated in paddle boarding events, enjoyed sailing tutorials and had mariner training classes… and lastly finished their scientific adventure with an end-of-camp Party!
